REVIEW: World Enough and Time by Emma C. Williams

World Enough and Time is an often funny, sometimes painful but ultimately uplifting novel about growing up and finding your feet in the world.

My Thoughts:

If you are looking for a fast paced, action packed book then World Enough and Time is not the book for you. However if you are looking for a story that is full of reality, then you definitely can't go wrong with this one!!

This is the story of Anna who was born with Goldenhar syndrome, which is a congenital birth defect which involves deformities of the face. It is her story as she prepares for, in her words, "the countdown to The Day My Life Changes". You see, Anna is about to undergo major surgery to make her face a "bit more normal". 

It's a sad fact of life that our physical appearance affects the way people look at us. Whether it be with shock, pity, sadness or sympathy.

You try living like this for one week and see how you like it. It isn't much fun getting stared at and having small children point at you, so as far as I'm concerned the surgery is absolutely necessary. Maybe afterwards I can truly live a normal life – boring bits included.

Anna is such a wonderful character. She is incredibly witty with an amazing ability for sarcasm and humour. She has an honesty about her and has no trouble admitting her own flaws, outside of the physical. If you put aside for a minute the fact that she has Goldenhar syndrome, then she is just like any other fifteen year old girl experiencing crushes, friendship drama's and school. But she experiences all of that with the added factor of the multitude of appointments to Doctors, where she is poked and prodded to prepare for her surgery.

Anna is surrounded by a network of equally wonderful people, from her parents to her friends, old and new. They don't always do or say the right things but I think for the most part they are always acting with Anna's best interests at heart.

Through the wonderful writing of Emma C. Williams, I found this book to be uplifting and wonderfully inspirational as well as completely original. A really quick read but one that you will most definitely love!!
